‘Bully’ Beats the Competition on MTV
While Jason “Mayhem” Miller and his cadre of King of the Cage fighters are
bringing justice to the little guy, Bully Beatdown has brought big ratings
to the latest cable channel to enter the MMA programming race, MTV.
Premiering on March 22nd to an impressive 1.02 rating and 1.4 million
viewers, Beatdown won its Sunday 9pm time slot among basic cable stations in
the male 12-34 demographic. Over the first four episodes of the series,
Beatdown has averaged over one million viewers with each new episode.
Comparatively, The Ultimate Fighter, now in its ninth season, did a 1.34
rating and 1.8 million viewers for its premiere on sister channel Spike TV.
The concept departs from the “house competition” paradigm that has become a
standard of reality TV. Instead, Bully Beatdown takes a page from a harsh
reality of its target audience, the existence of bullies. Celebrated MMA
fighter “Mayhem” Miller plays host as he meets victims of bullies and
subsequently issues a challenge to those respective culprits, on behalf of
their victims, to step in the cage and compete against a professional MMA
fighter in a modified two-round match.
Bully Beatdown has featured King of the Cage veterans such as Thomas
“Wildman” Denny, Michael Westbrook, Tony “the Gun” Bonello, and Jon “Man of
Faith” Murphy. To boot, Booyaa Fight Gear is featured as one of the main
sponsor for the fighters.
Looking toward the future, casting for a second season of Bully Beatdown has
already begun. “Mayhem” Miller recently defeated against Kala Kolohe Hose in
Kingdom MMA via first-round submission, and he will next challenge Ronaldo
“Jacare” Souza for the vacant Dream Middleweight title in Yokohama, Japan on
May 26th. Tony Bonello will next fight Lance Friedenstein at the Inn of the
Mountain Gods in Mescalero, NM, and Thomas Denny battles Alberto Crane on
June 11th at the San Manuel Casino in Highland, CA. More information on
upcoming matches with Bully Beatdown fighters can be found at
