He has also been officially crowned as THE BEST POUND FOR POUND FIGHTER IN THE WORLD. Joey is a force with lighting fast hands and monster slams he is one of the most exciting fighters in the Middle Weight Division who brings it hard the entire fight.

KM: You have earned the best pound for pound fighter; tell us why you are the best pound for pound fighter?

JV: I believed I have earned my World Title with all my hard work and desire I would like to first thank King of the Cage owners Terry Trebilcock and Ted Williams for advancing my career in Mixed Martial Arts and Cage fighting. The fans, my team, and my coaches. I just had my 14th fight for KOTC winning all 14 fights. I think that is the most any fighter has fought in KOTC. It is an honor to defend my Title.

KM: What is your official record in MMA?

JV: 19 - Wins 3 - Loses My 3 losses came early in my career within my first nine fights and two were by doctor stoppage. One time for cuts to the top of my head and one was for a broken foot after attempting a flying knee to my opponent.

KM: I was at that fight and interviewed you before the fight and I told you that you would be a star in MMA someday and look at you now!

JV: You did tell me and I remember that interview. It is amazing how you can see raw talent and know someone is going to be good now look how far I have come! I really have to keep giving props to my Team and my two coach's and managers Greg Jackson (MMA & Grappling) and Mike Winglejohn (Boxing & Kickboxing)

KM: At your last fight I kept yelling at you from the cage to use the knees to the inside thigh of your opponent as it was hurting him, then Terry Treblicock picks up a water bottle and hits me smack in the head to tell me to shut up and it was seen on PPV, that was funny shit!

JV: My kickboxing instructor Mike Winglejohn has really been working with me on the standup game and using knees and of course with "your help in the corner" It is all good as sometimes you just get caught up in the moment and I know you have been supporting me since day one of my career, "Thanks"

KM: Did you watch the tape of your last fight? What did you think of your performance?

JV: I did watch the tape of my last fight and I was really impressed with my performance and my cardio was in great shape as I could have went two more rounds if it was a five round fight. I was really seeing his punch's coming in like slow motion, it is hard to explain? "I just felt Great" I thought I was slow in the fight, however watching the tape I was fast and dominated for three rounds to defend my Title!

KM: You seem to be really cool with your fans, signing autographs and taking pictures, how does it feel to have such a following?

JV: It makes me feel great man, it shows that a more and more people are choosing to be fans and watch Mixed Martial Arts. It is getting to become more accepted. For me to have as many fans as I have is an honor and it just shows that KOTC will go down in history as producing some of the great champions.

KM: When training for a fight, how many days and hours do you train?

JV: My day is broken up into three different routines per day:
Jiu-Jitsu and MMA from about 12:30 to 2:30. Then go for a run light run throughout the week and then an intense run up the mountain to 11,000 Feet Elevation so the air is thin which helps are cardio, my team should never run out of gas as we are a mile high! Boxing and Kickboxing on Tuesday and Thursday from about 7:30 to 9:00. Then during the week I do private Kickboxing lessons with my coach. I also do Weight-Lifting during the week lifting very light with high reps because if you carry to much weight it slows down your speed so I like to be ripped and cut which makes for a fast striking ability.

KM: What type of diet do you stick to when training for a fight?

JV: High protein low carbohydrates no fried foods or fast food. I eat a lot of Steak, Fish, Proteins and supplements. I really would like a supplement company to pick me up as a sponsor and supply me with what I need on a monthly basis and a little sponsor money would not hurt so I can help the less privileged kids in the neighborhoods and communities. I really want to give to the community.

KM: Is it ever hard to make weight?

JV: In the past it used to be but now my team has a system were we can loose 15-20 pounds with no problem in two weeks, so making is no problem now.

KM: Do you feel you have put New Mexico on the map with your success in MMA?

JV: I do feel I have helped New Mexico grow as a MMA community and You know it feels great as some people still think New Mexico is a different County, so to help put New Mexico on the map with the MMA community is just a complete honor and I am glad to say I am from New Mexico! To be honest with you it really has been my Team Diego Sanchez, Dan Christenson, my coach's Greg Jackson and Mike Winglejohn have helped put New Mexico on the board also.

KM: Are you single or Married? Do you have any kids?

JV: I have an unbelievable Wife Nicki Villasenor who I could have not done any of this without. Two kids, Anthony and Natlie who mean the world to me! You can always replace fighting, you can never replace Family. Oh and my two dogs Jazzy and Jita. We are a hard working blue collar Family and I feel my kids will see how hard Dad works and follow in my foot steps. We are the type of Family that appreciates every good thing that comes are way. I want my kids to understand that you have to work hard to have a great life. It is good to have a Balance of Family in your Life.

KM: What do you do for fun when you are not training?

JV: "I Love to Fly Fish" I will Fly fish every time I get the chance. I Love to go to Heavy Metal concerts as I was just at the Ozzfest last week I received some comp tickets from the Radio Station 104.7 "Edge" props to the station for the hook up on the tickets! So it is Family, Fly Fishing, and Rock n Roll!!!!! Oh I can't forget the "River"

KM: What are your goals for your remaining MMA career?

JV: Since I moved down here to Albuquerque New Mexico exactly one year ago, I have been able to train with really great training partners, and great coach's that it has elevated my fighting to another level and I feel like I just keep getting better.

JV: I want to be a spokesman for the under privileged kids in my community so I can give them hope and show them a positive alternative to Drugs and Gangs like boxing or wrestling. Just to show that they can do it if they try. I really want to help the kids. It is just a matter of hard work and discipline. I have already spoken at three seminars for the kids; I just want to be a positive role model for the kids.

KM: Who do you want to fight next in KOTC?

JV: That is up to Terry and Ted. I have a contract and it states I fight so many fights, so it does not matter? A great fight would be Dean Lister. I think I am a threat for a lot of the guys in my weight class; I have never turned down a fight and so
