CHARLES "KRAZY HORSE" BENNETT
On the eve of his dominant KO performance against the very game Robert
Martz, I was graced with the opportunity to have this conversation with a
totally calm but confident Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett. Though late at
night when most of the fighters would be sound asleep in preparation for the
event to come, there was no sleep but fire in his eye.
This is what the 155lb. King of the Cage, Pride and Elite XC superstar had
to say.
JJ: What's up Krazy Horse?
Horse: How's it goin' brother?
JJ: How are ya feelin'? Everyone seems
to be gunnin' for ya...so how do ya feel about this fight?
Horse: Well, ya know I feel good about
this fight and this fight is no different than any other. My new thing is
that I realize I am so different than any other fighter because they all
want to know what your weak point is. Me, I want to know what your strong
point is cause from now on, I'm attacking you at your strong point. Fuck
your weak points. You'll probably beat me at your weak point so I'm gonna
attack you at your strong point. That's my new game plan.
JJ: So how does it feel to fight for
Terry and this great organization King of the Cage?
Horse: Well, ya know I've been with Terry for a long time. I feel
good with Terry and this is my home basiclly. They always call me the "KOTC
Veteran" and I take a lot of pride and respect in that because I've been
here a long time and I guess I stuck around longer than anyone else in this
sport so...yeah, I'll be the veteran of KOTC. I'm the man....I'm the Shit!!!
JJ: You've had some pretty wicked
knockouts and you had some great fights in Japan as well as on Showtime. You
are a fan favorite. Are you working on your ground game, striking, and
submissions? Have you done anything different to improve your game besides
say...Basketball?
Horse: (laughter) Hey, let me tell you something. I was born with it.
I don't have to train. I WAS BORN WITH IT. All I need to do is run. Get
cardio. That is what makes me so powerful in this sport right now. I don't
want to train because I want to be the best and being the best is being
different than everyone else. Let everyone else do their Jiu-Jitsu,
Wrestling and Boxing. All those people are training to come fight Horse. I
guarantee that without me training...I'll still whoop your ass. I'll give
you what your're looking for. No, I don't need to train. I'm a natural.
JJ: You always come out with unorthodox
and surprising angles. Your strikes and approach are slightly akin to that
of a Chuck Liddel, or Rampage in that a knockout is always only seconds
away. It is hard to fathom that your angles and style are NOT trained for.
Horse: Hey, hey hey.... Don't ever compare me to any other fighters
because every other fighter trains. I don't train. People that want to
compare me to Rampage....he's a good man and a great fighter, but you can't
compare me to Rampage because I don't train. I'm just Krazy Horse. I'm in a
world class league of my own. What I do you can't train for. When you fight
me, you can't train for me because you never know what your ging to get. I'm
in a league of my OWN!
JJ: I gotta tell you man that I very
much appreciate your time. I know that you must be busy and it is an honor
to follow your career as a fighter and as a person. Blow it up man! Good
Luck!
Horse: Thanks Jo-Jo. For the record I am in a league of my own. I
just want to say thank you to Terry Trebilcock. I want to give him a shout
because if it wasn't for him, I WOULDN'T BE HERE!
JJ: You got a good heart Horse. Thanks
dude.
....And so it is that the man we all know as Charles "Krazy Horse"
Bennett "can not" be compared to any other fighter stylisticly nor in any
personality realm. His devotion to the fans, his style, and King of the Cage
are only some reasons why his legacy will continue to grow and inspire the
multitudes of MMA fans across the world.
