....In the beginning
Founded BOOYAA in 1998 while working with inmates with mental illness, from Los Angeles Counties Main Jail and prisons throughout California.
I met Terry Trebilcock by way of a good friend Dan Rivas, "The Godfather". After out-fishing both of them a couple times and getting to know Terry outside of fishing or fighting, we became good friends.
King of the Cage was in need of a merchandiser that was willing to travel to all shows throughout the United States and sell KOTC merchandise. Booyaa was in need of a reputable MMA platform to launch our brand. Funding was challenging, as it is with every start up clothing company. Terry asked if I would be interested in designing, producing and selling at all of KOTC's events and I instantly said Yes.
I looked at the amount of shows KOTC did and the hard cost associated with producing a respectable line and realized, I just didn't have the funds to do his brand justice.
I met with Terry and told him I sincerely appreciate the opportunity but would have to decline because frankly, I don't have the money. Terry asked how much do you need to produce a respectable line of clothing that would fulfill our needs on the front lines. I told him just to launch and design your line were looking at initial start up cost of about $8,360.00. Terry says cool, we have a show in two weeks, you will have a check tomorrow. The next day I received a check for $10,000.00 and the rest is history.
Godfather and I took to the road and began touring with King of the Cage.
