KOTC Confrontation: Full Results

Saturday January 15th Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino in Santa Fe, NM. Was the site of a stellar King of the Cage card. Titled Confrontation the show featured a Bantamweight title fight between Albuquerque’s Donald Sanchez and LCF Champ Scott Bear of Oklahoma. Fans were also treated to the action packed first round of the KOTC Young Guns Flyweight Tournament. In total thirteen adrenaline pumping fights thrilled the capacity crowd and proved why KOTC is regarded as a preeminent combat sports organization.

The evening’s undercard showcased many tough young fighters many with veteran experience. The results of the undercard are as follows:

Skyler Pendelton def. PJ Jaramillo by U/D

Jesse Jaramillo def. Greg Varela by TKO 1:04 Rd 1

Trey Solomon def. Fabian Vasquez by Kimura 1:14 Rd 1

Reba Klimt def. Zuhey Quezada by U/D

Jeremy Onyeque def. Adam Apodaca by U/D

Lorenzo Coca def. Joe Salazar by RNC 1:43 Rd 1

Bill Albrecht def. Carlos Lopez by Armbar1:18 Rd 1

Nick Piedmont def. Anthony Griego by U/D

The Main Card started with a light heavy tilt between Eric McElroy of Albuquerque and Californian Melvin Costa. Costa fought back to his feet after a big double-leg takedown by McElroy and then went to work, reversing position and ground and pounding his way to a TKO victory at 2:13 of the first. Next was the first of three Flyweight scraps as part of the first round of the Young Guns Grand Prix. Representing Cheyenne, WY., Frank Morris took on local stud Nathaniel Baker. Morris took Baker out of his comfort zone early and used his crafty ground game to slap on an armbar forcing Baker to tap in the first round. Nate Vorel of Tuscon was up next and needed less than a round to force opponent Gene Perez to tap to strikes.

In the co-main event FIT fighter and fan favorite Frank Baca was all business in dismantling Lewis McKenzie of Oklahoma. McKenzie’s skills didn’t match his trash talk as he kept verbally taunting Baca throughout the entire fight. Baca remained unfazed and workmanlike in bloodying McKenzie up before TKOing him with seconds left in the third. To his credit McKenzie almost finished the fight and never quit despite the constant pressure put on him by Baca.

Donald Sanchez entered the room to a thunderous applause to face gutsy veteran Scott Bear for the Bantamweight strap in the Main Event. In the opening moments it looked like Bear might present a stiff challenge to the champ, but it didn’t take long before Sanchez sat him down with a stiff right hand. From there Sanchez ground and pounded Bear who did his best to cover up, and looked like he might survive the round. At the 3:00 mark Bear began to wilt and Sanchez pressed him against the cage and fastened on a tight neck only guillotine forcing Bear to Tap. Again the crowd erupted as Sanchez had his belt placed around his waist once again.

Stay tuned for more pictures and reports in the coming days.
